What is Orton-Gillingham?
The Orton-Gillingham approach was developed in the 1930s by neuropsychiatrist and pathologist Dr. Samuel T. Orton and educator, psychologist Anna Gillingham. In addressing the needs of struggling readers (then referred to as “word-blindness,” now known as dyslexia) Orton and Gillingham created an approach to reading instruction that was explicit and direct, using multi-sensory strategies that were systematic and sequential.
As a certified Orton-Gillingham instructor, I utilize a multi-sensory approach to teaching that is personalized, structured, strategic, systematic, diagnostic, and prescriptive.
At Love to Learn, a multi-sensory approach to instruction is delivered utilizing the Orton-Gillingham methodology. Love to Learn offers academic coaching in English Language Arts and Math for children of all ages and abilities. Our services also target executive functioning skills, ADHD/ADD support, and homework help.
